Thunder on the mountain...

I saw this over on Neal Boortz's page and it bears repeating. Jay Cost is absolutely right. A change is coming to Washington D.C. and it's not going to be in the form that people think.

Unrelated to this topic, but what is the origin of "Hold'er Newt" ?

I'm not really sure. It's something that my Mother and Father would always say to me right about the time that I was going to do something extraordinarily stupid or inappropriate. My family is from Kentucky and I hear that a lot.

I did some research online. There is no clear origin. The expression seems to be at least 100 years old and is an old farmland saying. Newt was a common nickname. Rhubarb is poisonous except for the stalks. The phrase appears to be referencing holding back a horse that is bolting for a patch of rhubarb which could result in death or injury due to one's own stupidity or ignorance. seems to be

That all makes sense then. Both of my parents families were tobacco farmers in Carter Co., KY at one point.
